Horse Riding in Zanzibar

Overview

Imagine yourself atop a calm, beautiful horse, its hooves gently brushing the powder-white sand as the turquoise waters of the Zanzibar Island coast sparkle under the golden sun.

With Visit Zanzibar Island we bring you a special horse-riding experience that blends nature, adventure and serenity in one unforgettable ride.

Whether you’re a first-timer or have ridden before, we guide you safely along coastline trails, through coconut palms, and along soft waves that kiss the shore.

You’ll feel the sea breeze in your hair, hear the rhythmic splash of waves, and sense a deep connection to this tropic paradise—all while in the saddle.

From pristine beaches like Nungwi in the north to lesser-known scenic stretches, our tour gives you a unique vantage of Zanzibar you won’t get from the boat or snorkel.

It’s ideally suited for travellers seeking a memorable, easy-access adventure with a local flavor.

Highlights

  • Ride along Zanzibar’s famed white-sand beaches, with horses walking or trotting at comfortable pace.
  • Feel the surge of excitement as your horse enters shallow water for a gentle “ride on the tide” moment – a rare and magical thrill.
  • Experience either the early-morning calm or the golden-hour glow of a sunset beach ride.
  • Professional local guides ensure your comfort, safety and enjoyment, and help capture photo-worthy moments.
  • For families, couples or solo travellers: the pace is relaxed and accessible even to beginners.

Perfect-for

  • Couples seeking romance: The sunset beach ride, soft hoof prints on sand, and ocean horizon make this a dreamy island-date experience.

  • Families with older children: A new way to explore Zanzibar beyond beach sunbathing — fun, memorable and accessible.

  • Solo travellers or groups wanting something different: Skip the standard snorkel tours and enjoy a horseback ride at your own rhythm.

  • First-time riders or light experience riders: Our guides tailor the pace, and beach rides are gentle and scenic rather than intense.

  • Photographers and Instagram-lovers: The setting is highly photogenic — horses + beach + beautiful light = memories you’ll want to share.

Itinerary

Your adventure begins with a warm welcome at the stable. You’ll meet your horse and receive a quick briefing from our professional guide. Safety gear such as helmets will be provided before your ride begins.

Start your journey along a calm beach path where soft sands and swaying palms set the tone.

You’ll begin at a comfortable walking pace, with options to move into a gentle trot once you feel confident.

If the tide allows, you’ll ride your horse into the shallows — an exhilarating experience where waves gently brush your legs as your horse moves gracefully through the water.

After about 15–90 minutes (depending on your chosen duration), you’ll return to the stable where you can thank your horse, take photos, and enjoy refreshments before heading back.

Note: Morning and sunset rides are both available. Sunset rides are especially popular for couples and photographers.
